‘Synthesis’,

Catalyst Arts, Belfast

This text was developed for the first RHA Young Art Writer programme in 2018. It responds to Liam McCarton’s curated group exhibition ‘Synthesis’ at Catalyst Arts, Belfast.

Excerpt of text from publication, 2018

The works in the exhibition encompassed video, sound and light installation exploring data input
and the synthesis of information. The text is highly experimental and hybridized; incorporating anthropomorphic narrative, direct response to the work and art criticism.

Throughout the text, is the data input of a human body detected by a kinect v1 sensor, which forms the backbone of the text. The form of the text is treated like a hybridized material that runs parallel to the exhibition. It explores the themes of post-humanism, embodiment and the relationship between human and machine.
