‘Bodies of Water’, Catalyst Arts, Belfast
‘Bodies of Water’ was written in response to Catalyst Arts’ ‘Water Bodies’ exhibition in August 2020. The exhibition manifested itself; througha tangible AV installation, performance piece and online archival pool. Each form exists as an extension of the other and embodies ‘Water Bodies’ exploration of touch, connection, communication and watery flow in a period of quarantine and isolation. The exhibition derived from a collaborative process by; Cara Farnan, Jennifer Moore and Emma Brennan.
The text furthers these themes into a small accordion fold book. The text expands the work into a poetic response that explores how we have begun to navigate the new Covid-19 pandemic world. The text responds directly to the opening performance piece and acts as a translation of the piece, allowing for its presence to extend beyond the opening night.
Exhibition documentation by Simon Mills, available at Catalyst Arts’ online archive
The accordion fold form was chosen to mirror the flush and flow of communication and liquids within the installation. Within the accordion fold form; the two co-current columns of text flow through the pages of the book and are interspersed with small fragmented quotes drawn from the AV installation.
